What Is Reiki?
REIKI & THE ENERGY CENTERS
Reiki is a Japanese stress reduction and relaxation technique that promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If our "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stressed, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

The body's energy centers (known as chakras in Hindu traditions) are individual centers with their own frequency and energy. Each energy center emits different information and/or intentions; correlates to its own individual glands, hormones, and chemistry; and houses its own unique plexuses of neurons. When activated with energy, each center expresses its own level of mind.

Reiki is not an alternative to allopathic medicine—it is a “complementary” therapy that can be implemented alongside all other medical and therapeutic techniques. It is a gentle technique suitable for even very fragile patients, so it is accepted widely in hospitals and hospices worldwide. The profound relaxation produced by Reiki has been anecdotally reported to alleviate anxiety and stress, the perception of pain, and promote a feeling of psycho-spiritual well-being.

Mikao Usui developed Reiki in Japan in the 1920s. It is a relaxing healing therapy applied through a noninvasive, nonmanipulative gentle touch. Reiki involves lightly laying hands just above or on the clothed body, working over the front and back in a slow progression of hand positions. Reiki has no religious doctrine and is accepted by people from all backgrounds and belief systems.

Just for today, I will not be angry.

Just for today, I will do my work honestly.

Just for today, I will give thanks for my many blessings.

Just for today, I will be kind to my neighbor and every living thing.
